Understanding the Bias Factor in Social Justice Issues Essay WritingSocial justice issues are important to a student's future education. Because of their importance, the most fundamental element of social justice issues essay writing is crucial to the success of the student's paper. The writer must know how to determine whether or not the topic is too controversial.Writing a critique is part of the problem. After all, students are working under the assumption that the student is attempting to be objective and their purpose is to analyze the information contained in the assignment. If the student's topic is a hot-button issue, the student may feel pressure to express an opinion as to which side is correct.Bias: bias is much like lying in terms of moral iniquity. The difference is that the evidence does not support lying. Bias takes the form of drawing conclusions based on assumptions, myths and stereotypes. Bias can come from assuming that a group is better than another group; it can come from assuming that the group is less intelligent or less serious. There are several situations in which the student may feel bias in his or her social justice issues essay. For example, the student may feel that a particular opinion is common knowledge because everyone knows it. In this case, bias results from keeping the student from seeking other views.Bias also takes the form of sticking to one's own personal viewpoint regardless of whether that view is factual or not. When a student expresses one's personal beliefs on a public issue, he or she will likely be subject to criticism and may even be punished by the school.Bias is insidious. Some students do not even realize that they are expressing personal opinions that contradict the student's true feelings. In some cases, students are unaware that they are endorsing stereotypes that can be derogatory. Some students may exhibit such prejudice that they will eventually end up in a position where their personal beliefs are at odd s with the students' true beliefs.Bias is a serious problem that can be prevented by using proper research before submitting a paper. During research, the student should learn what the opposite opinion is so that he or she can write an essay that expresses both sides of the debate. The student's goal is to be able to write an essay that represents the student's point of view. However, when the student expresses his or her personal opinion about a controversial topic, the results can be very disappointing for the student and the school.
